"Soap operas in the classroom" - a contribution to media literacy by Dieter-Hermann Düwel, fsu 2/2001 (März/April) )

The growing popularity of soap operas and the increasing influence they have on people's attitudes have recently attracted the attention of educators to this genre of television programmes. In the face of the important role media awareness and media literacy are playing in German school curricula the soap seems to be an ideal subject of analysis, discussion and, above all, creative writing. This article aims at presenting some background information as well as suggesting different ideas of how to deal with this topic in class.
